… and promises to be a fun-filled, entertaining and informative  experience the whole family can enjoy!

The Plant Powered Show – the first of its kind on the African continent – takes place this weekend at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). Doors will open on Friday, May 27 at 10:00 and close on Sunday May 29 at 17:00.

Aimed at those looking to live and enjoy a healthier, more conscious and sustainable lifestyle, the three day event will feature professional chefs, celebrity cooks and rising stars hosting live cooking demos and hosting masterclasses as well as a programme of diverse and compelling talks by health and wellness experts and a marketplace filled with hundreds of vegan and plant-based food, drink and lifestyle brands and products to test, sample and buy.

The show will also incorporate a virtual component, allowing visitors from the rest of the country, the continent and around the globe to join the event from the comfort of their own homes, via the HOPIN online venue from which they can watch a livestream of The Checkers Plant Kitchen chef demos live from the CTICC, meet with exhibitors in the Virtual Expo area and network with other online attendees in the speed networking area.

Live Events CEO Heidi Warricker is the driving force behind The Plant Powered Show and says: “We are so excited to finally be able to launch The Plant Powered Show as a live in-person event in Cape Town, but also pleased that it will have an online component. Consumers across the globe want to live more consciously and be more mindful of the animals with whom we share the planet, and chefs and foodies want to be inspired to create delicious meals with exciting new ingredients. This show will bring them all that … and more!”

Chefs taking part in the cooking demos and masterclasses include MasterChef SA judge Zola Nene, MasterChef Australia 2020 finalist Simon Toohey (online from Melbourne), Mokgadi Itsweng, Jenny Morris, Claire Sharryn Roberto, Jane Nshuti, Tamsin Snyman, Mira Weiner, Arabella Parkinson, Phil Mansergh, Loubie Rusch, Peter Daniel, Rudi Liebeneberg Michele Mistry, Leozette Roode and MasterChef SA finalists Andriëtte de la Harpe and Tarryn de Kock. In addition, award-winning mixologists Owen O’Reilly and Kurt Schlechter will be showing attendees how to whip up delicious alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.

As well as the hourly chef demos, plant-power talks and masterclasses, The Plant Powered Show will also feature a marketplace of new, innovative and high-quality vegan and plant-based food, drink and lifestyle products, a Vegan & Meet programme where visitors can meet their favourite chefs and get books signed, pop up restaurants, food trucks, chill out areas and a yoga zone.

Says Warricker: “This is a show that everyone will enjoy – young and old alike. I cannot stress enough that it is not an event only for vegans and vegetarians. It has been carefully and considerately curated to appeal to flexitarians, reducetarians, sports enthusiasts, individuals who have compromised their health and those looking for healthier, more ethical lifestyle choices for themselves and their family.
